Meranti is a group of tropical hardwoods, originating from Southeast Asia, valued for its balance of durability and workability, attractive color range (from pale pink to dark red or yellowish-brown), and coarse, sometimes ribbon-like, grain. While it’s a soft to firm hardwood, it is dent-resistant and stable, making it a popular, cost-effective choice for joinery, window frames, cabinetry, and mouldings, though it can have low resistance to shock loads.
